Arsenal drew Crystal Palace at The Emirates on Sunday & one of the storylines that emerged from the game was how captain Granit Xhaka reacted to being jeered by the home fans while being substituted off the pitch.
Clearly not the reaction you’re looking for if you’re the manager Unai Emery or one of Xhaka’s teammates that’s supposed to look at him as a leader.
When directly asked in his press conference whether Xhaka would remain captain, Arsenal head coach Unai Emery replied: ‘It’s not the moment to speak about that because first I want to speak with him and the club.
‘We need to stay calm but, really, he was wrong.’
Emery insisted that Xhaka should have dealt with the situation in a better manner.
‘We are working, me and the club to manage playing under pressure, when under pressure to have our minds clear,’ said the Arsenal boss. (h/t Daily Mail)
I think Arsenal can certainly has the quality to attain a Top 4 spot in the Premier League & I think Emery can work in London but this cannot be how his captain acts after a poor performance. Are the Gooners tough graders for their Gunners? Of course but shouldn’t a club like Arsenal hold their players to a high level? I think this will all get sorted out but it was a poor display from a captain of one of England’s main clubs.
