Dallas Cowboys Hire Mike McCarthy

The Dallas Cowboys parted ways with Jason Garrett officially on Sunday & on Monday morning Mike McCarthy was reportedly named the next head coach in Dallas.

Apparently, McCarthy’s first interview went so well he stayed the night at the Jones’ to continue the meeting the next day.

A sticking point for coaches interviewing for the job was their plan for retaining possible Cowboys offensive assistant coaches including play caller Kellen Moore.

Here’s my quick reaction.

Again, I’ll have more on the pod tomorrow but I am not happy with this move. I understand Jerry Jones wanted a coach that was a proven winner in the league but no coach has won a Super Bowl after leaving the team they won the big one with. That is enough evidence for me to not want a retread.

What is really going on is, Jerry found another puppet that has had some success that can always be recalled when things will eventually go bad in Dallas.

I wanted Lincoln Riley the most out of all the serious candidates that emerged. Riley reportedly was not even interviewed. That says something to me besides Jerry not wanting to sit through the growing pains of a 1st time NFL coach.

Jerry must think that McCarthy can step in & help the Cowboys win now. That thought has to out weigh the theory of trading for Sean Payton or Mike Zimmer or going with a college coach in Riley or Matt Rhule. The reality show continues in Dallas. I truly thought that maybe this was a changing of the guard but look how wrong I was. I’ll always have LFC at least…
