Eric Dier Climbs Into Stands After FA Cup Loss to Norwich

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier climbed into the stands to confront a fan after Spurs FA Cup loss to Norwich City in penalties. It was originally reported that Dier went to address a fan who had racial abused teammate Gedson Fernandes. However reports are now indicating that Dier stepped over the rows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to confront a fan who had made comments about his play. The fan then made comments to Dier’s family who were seated nearby.

Manager Jose Mourinho was asked about the incident in his post match press conference.

This certainly is not an anomaly in sports anymore. Whenever a player enters the stands, I immediately think of the Malice at the Palace or the Bruins climbing the glass at Madison Square Garden. Really scary situations for so many reasons. I always worry about some lunatic running onto a field or a pitch or a court but it’s really frightening when a player decides to confront a fan by going into the stands themselves.

Thankfully Dier & others did not seem to be physically harmed.
