Cam Newton to the Patriots; What Does It Mean?

The New England Patriots & Cam Newton agreed to a one year deal on Sunday, making Newton the short term successor for Tom Brady.

Newton to NE makes a lot of sense when you break it down, it’s a typical low risk high reward Bill Belichick roster move. Newton may be coming off years where he’s been hampered by injuries, but his talent & skill set when he is healthy is hard to replicate.

Cam’s been nagged by shoulder & foot injuries the last two seasons that have put the former Auburn star on the bench in Carolina. However if Newton is healthy & can run & throw like the MVP he was once this is a steal for BB & the Pats.

It will be really interesting how Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels uses Newton & how the offense would shift from the pocket passing of Brady to a read-option/RPO offense.

All in all this is nothing really different that what the Pats have done at a ton of positions on the field, it just hasn’t been at quarterback until now.
