Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is in for Eli Manning & with Manning headed to the bench, there was a lot of talk about the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Excluding young guys like Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield & Deshaun Watson (& Dak), here’s who I think will be in the HOF when it’s said & done.
Locks: Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Roethlisberger
These are no brainers. Brady, Brees & Rodgers will all be first ballot when their time comes in Canton. Big Ben is a lock with two Super Bowls & the fact that he has played at a high level later in his career.
Most Likely: Wilson, Manning, Rivers
This category could get interesting. I think when it’s all done Russell Wilson will go down as one of the most dynamic players to ever play the position. Philip Rivers could use a Super Bowl but his stats & longevity should get him in.
And now we get to the curious case of Eli Manning. Undeniable are the two Super Bowl runs defeating the team of the era twice. But on the other hand his numbers in years of not going to the Super Bowl have been atrocious. Has Eli complied enough numbers to justify getting into the Hall of Fame alone? I think no but the two SB’s & two Super Bowl MVP’s put his case ahead of regular QB’s with just the numbers.
Could Get In With Super Bowl: Ryan & Stafford
These two will be statistical anomalies. Matt Ryan & Matt Stafford are going to have a ton of positive statistics to boost their cases for Canton but they would need a Super Bowl to get them over the hump. Can they still get in, absolutely. But they’re going to need their teams to help more than they have already.
